chronos-2

amazon

**Update Jun 5, 2026:** ☁️ Deploy Chronos-2 on AWS with AutoGluon-Cloud. Real-time, serverless, or batch inference in 3 lines of code — pandas DataFrames in, forecasts out. Check out the new deployment guide. **Chronos-2** is a 120M-parameter, encoder-only time series foundation model for zero-shot forecasting. It supports **univariate**, **multivariate**, and **covariate-informed** tasks within a single architecture. Inspired by the T5 encoder, Chronos-2 produces multi-step-ahead quantile forecasts and uses a group attention mechanism for efficient in-context learning across related series and covariates. Trained on a combination of real-world and large-scale synthetic datasets, it achieves **state-of-the-art zero-shot accuracy** among public models on **fev-bench**, **GIFT-Eval**, and **Chronos Benchmark II**. Chronos-2 is also **highly efficient**, delivering over 300 time series forecasts per second on a single A10G GPU and supporting both **GPU and CPU inference**. 🧩 Chronos & Chronos-Bolt do not natively support future covariates, but they can be combined with external covariate regressors (see AutoGluon tutorial). This only models per-timestep effects, not effects across time. In contrast, Chronos-2 supports all covariate types natively.

🚀 **Update Feb 14, 2025**: Chronos-Bolt models are now available on Amazon SageMaker JumpStart! Check out the tutorial notebook to learn how to deploy Chronos endpoints for production use in a few lines of code. Chronos-Bolt is a family of pretrained time series forecasting models which can be used for zero-shot forecasting. It is based on the T5 encoder-decoder architecture and has been trained on nearly 100 billion time series observations. It chunks the historical time series context into patches of multiple observations, which are then input into the encoder. The decoder then uses these representations to directly generate quantile forecasts across multiple future steps—a method known as direct multi-step forecasting. Chronos-Bolt models are up to 250 times faster and 20 times more memory-efficient than the original Chronos models of the same size. The following plot compares the inference time of Chronos-Bolt against the original Chronos models for forecasting 1024 time series with a context length of 512 observations and a prediction horizon of 64 steps.

🚀 **Update Feb 14, 2025**: Chronos-Bolt & original Chronos models are now available on Amazon SageMaker JumpStart! Check out the tutorial notebook to learn how to deploy Chronos endpoints for production use in a few lines of code. 🚀 **Update Nov 27, 2024**: We have released Chronos-Bolt⚡️ models that are more accurate (5% lower error), up to 250 times faster and 20 times more memory-efficient than the original Chronos models of the same size. Check out the new models here. Chronos is a family of **pretrained time series forecasting models** based on language model architectures. A time series is transformed into a sequence of tokens via scaling and quantization, and a language model is trained on these tokens using the cross-entropy loss. Once trained, probabilistic forecasts are obtained by sampling multiple future trajectories given the historical context. Chronos models have been trained on a large corpus of publicly available time series data, as well as synthetic data generated using Gaussian processes.

Selection guide & FAQ
How should API prices be compared?+

Separate input, output and cache rates, then estimate the same workload. Image, audio and video rates may use items, duration or resolution rather than tokens.

Do open weights mean free commercial use?+

Not necessarily. Check each version’s license, commercial restrictions and policies. Self-hosting also incurs compute and maintenance costs.

Is the top-ranked model the best for me?+

Rankings depend on tasks, versions and methods. Compare accuracy, latency, reliability and costs on your own workload.
